Child Baby Safety Seats

This article discusses best child baby safety seats. Ninety percent of the young (under 5 years of age) children killed in car accidents each year would have survived if they had been in safety seats. Reason: They can slip out of full-sized seat belts or be knocked out of an adult's arms by any impact.
For infants, experts recommend a molded plastic bucket that holds the baby securely with its back towards the front of the car to protect the child from flying glass. When they are too big for that model, graduate to a child seat. These face forward, have racer-type harnesses, and are padded.
Two types: Tethered (a strap gets anchored to the car) and non-tethered. Both are safe when properly installed. Shop for one that's been crash-tested by the manufacturer. Safest place to install: The center of the back seat.

Taking A Car Manufacturer To Court: A little-known federal law, the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, can make a big difference for car purchasers who get stuck with a lemon. Reason: If the manufacturer won't live up to its warranty obligation, you can sue and collect attorneys' fees, in addition to your other damages. Result: Complaints that ordinarily wouldn't justify a lawsuit because of the expense of litigation are now worth pursuing.
Mark Silber, an attorney who has handled a number of these cases, answered questions about suing car manufacturers.
When does it pay to hire a lawyer in an auto-warranty dispute?
When you have had no satisfaction from the dealer or from the auto manufacturer's zone representative. We generally get three kinds of cases:
• The company wants to keep trying to fix the car, even though numerous repair attempts have been unsuccessful.
• The company insists that the car is operating "within specifications," although the problem persists.

• The problems are so massive that fixing the car would amount to remanufacturing it, and what you would end up with is a rebuilt auto instead of a new one.
How do you decide if a case is worth taking? I have four guidelines:
• The car must currently have a substantial impairment that affects its safety, reliability, or market value.
• The problems must have arisen during the warranty period.
• The purchaser must have visited the dealer at least five times about the problem. • There must have been at least two attempts to work things out with the manufacturer.
Is the litigation long?
Most cases are settled. Very few are tried to completion. A fair number are settled after a trial has begun but before a verdict is handed down.
What does it cost to get the lawsuit started? Often, there is an initial consultation fee.
Cost: $35 to $50. If the case is worth pursuing there may be a retainer of $450 to $750, depending on the size and value of the vehicle and the extent of the problem. As mentioned, the settlement or verdict usually includes reimbursement for attorneys' fees.
How do I locate a lawyer who handles these cases?
The Center for Auto Safety in Washington, DC, keeps a list of attorneys who handle auto warranty cases. They can be reached at (202) 328-7700.
