God's Days
There are two days in the week upon
which and about which I never worry -- two carefree days kept
sacredly free from fear and apprehension. One of these days is
Yesterday. Yesterday, with its cares and fret and pains and
aches, all its faults, its mistakes and blunders, has passed
forever beyond my recall. It was mine; it is God's.
The other day that I do not worry
about is Tomorrow. Tomorrow, with all its possible adversities,
its burdens, its perils, its large promise and performance, its
failures and mistakes, is as far beyond my mastery as its dead
sister, Yesterday. Tomorrow is God's day; it will be mine.
There is left, then, for myself but
one day in the week - Today. Any man can fight the battles of
today. Any woman can carry the burdens of just one day; any man
can resist the temptation of today. It is only when we willfully
add the burden of these two awful eternities - Yesterday and
Tomorrow - such burdens as only the Mighty God can sustain -
that we break down.
It isn't the experience of Today that
drives men mad. It is the remorse of what happened Yesterday and
fear of what Tomorrow might bring. These are God's Days ...
Leave them to Him.
The Triple Filter
Test
In ancient Greece, Socrates was
reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day an
acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know
what I just heard about your friend?"
"Hold on a minute," Socrates replied.
"Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be good idea to
take a moment and filter what you’re going to say. That’s why I
call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have
you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is
true?"
"Well, no," the man said, "actually I
just heard about it and…"
"All right," said Socrates. "So you
don’t really know if it’s true or not. Now, let’s try the second
filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me
about my friend something good?"
"Umm, no, on the contrary…"
"So," Socrates continued, "you want
to tell me something bad about my friend, but you’re not certain
it’s true. You may still pass the test though, because there’s
one filter left—the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to
tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"
"No, not really."
"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what
you want to tell me is neither true, nor good, nor even useful,
why tell it to me at all?"
Reaction vs.
Response
Suddenly, a cockroach flew from
somewhere and sat on her. I wondered if this was the cockroach’s
response to all the glory that was spoken about it! She started
screaming out of fear. With panic stricken face and trembling
voice, she started doing jumping, with both her hands
desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach. Her reaction was
contagious, as everyone in her group got cranky to what was
happening.
The lady finally managed to push the
cockroach to another lady in the group. Now, it was the turn of
the other lady in the group to continue the drama. The waitress
rushed forward to their rescue. In the relay of throwing, the
cockroach next fell upon the waitress.
The waitress stood firm, composed
herself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on her shirt.
When she was confident enough, she grabbed and threw it out with
her fingers.
Sipping my coffee and watching the
amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and
started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their
hysteric behavior? If so, then why was the waitress not
disturbed? she handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.
It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to
handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed
the ladies.
I realized even in my case then, it
is not the shouting of my father or my boss that disturbs me,
but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their
shouting that disturbs me.
It’s not the traffic jams on the road
that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance
caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.
More than the problem, it’s my
reaction to the problem that hurts me.
Lessons learnt from the story:
I understood, I should not react in
life. I should always respond.
The women reacted, whereas the
waitress responded.
Reactions are always instinctive
whereas responses are always intellectual...
Handle a Business successfully, manage a
company, is the trick to the establishment and growth of the
business. The trick to
successful management is to examine
the market environment and create employment and profit
opportunities that give the possible
growth and financial
viability of the business enterprise.
Regardless of the
Significance of direction, this area is often misunderstood and
poorly implemented, chiefly because people focus
on the
output rather than the process of management.
Toward the
end Of the 1980s, company managers became consumed in improving
product quality, sometimes ignoring their role
vis-a-vis
personnel. The focus was on reducing costs and increasing
output, while ignoring the long-term advantages of motivating
personnel. This shortsighted view tended to raise profits in the
brief term, but made a dysfunctional long-term business
atmosphere.
Simultaneously With the growth in concern
about quality, entrepreneurship attracted the interest of
company. A sudden wave of
successful entrepreneurs appeared
to leave sooner management concepts obsolete. The popular press
focused on the brand new cult
heroes Steve Jobs and Steve
Wozniack (creators and developers of the Apple Computer) while
ignoring the marketing and organizing
talents of Mike
Markula, the executive accountable for Apple's business program.
The story of 2 men selling their Volkswagen bus
to construct
the first Apple computer was more amorous than that of the
organizational genius that allowed Apple to grow, market
and
send its goods while rapidly becoming a significant corporation.
In big Companies, effective manage business skills
necessitates planning. Planning is vital for developing a
company's potential.
But many small businesses do not
recognize the need for long-range plans, because the small
number of individuals involved in
managing the company
suggests equal responsibility in the preparation and
decision-making procedures. Nevertheless, the
requirement for
planning is as important in a small business because it is at a
large one.
This guide Focuses on the value of good
management practices. Specifically, it addresses the
responsibilities of handling the
external and internal
environments.
Managing A Business Effectively: The
External Environment. Five decades ago, Alvin Toffler indicated
that the vision of the
taxpayer at the tight grip of an
omnipotent bureaucracy would be substituted by an organizational
arrangement of ad-hocracy. The
conventional company
organization implied a social contract between employees and
employers. By adhering to a predetermined set of
obligations
and sharply defined roles and responsibilities, employees
obtained a predefined set of rewards. The Organizational
structure that Toffler predicted in 1970 became the norm 20
years later, and with it arrived changed concepts of
jurisdiction. As
organizations became more transitory, the
authority of the organization and firm has been replaced with
the authority of the
individual manager. This entrepreneurial
management version is now being replicated throughout society.
As a result, the
individual business operator must
internalize ever raising organizational functions.
Another Shift In today's business environment is dealing with
government agencies. Their influence on the conduct of company
most
recently appears to have increased. As businesses fail
to achieve high levels of moral behavior or individual
businesses display
particular lapses, the government rushes
in to fill the breach with its regulations.
Powerful
Communications play an integral part in managing and operating
any successful small business. With open communications
modifications and their consequences on the business are quickly
shared. Your company then has the time and skills needed to
react
to changes and take advantage of evolving
opportunities.
The next Checklist addressing how you
would respond to an employee's suggestion offers an assessment
of the communication process
in your business. Put a check
beside the statements which are commonly heard in your business.
Balancing Schedules Stress and Personnel. Without
organization and decent control the compressed time programs
related to modern
business can cause stress and make
exceptional demands on individuals. A successful management
structure can reduce stress and
channel the effective
capacity of workers into business growth and profits.
Setting Duties Tasks and Duties. An organization is
distinguished by the nature and determination of employees'
duties tasks and
responsibilities. While many organizations
use different procedures for discovering these it's essential
that they be clearly
defined.
The center of any
Organization is its people and their functions. Duties
responsibilities and tasks frequently evolve into an ad
hoc
manner. A typical firm starts with a couple of individuals often
one doing all duties. As the company grows others have been
hired to fulfill certain roles often on a functional basis.
Roles that were managed by consultants and specialists outside
the
firm are now handled internally. As new demands emerge
new roles are developed.
Another crucial to Successful
management is located in controlling conflict. Conflict cannot
be removed from either the business
or the interpersonal
actions of this enterprise. A measure of this business's success
is the degree to which conflict can be
subjected and the
energies associated with it channeled to build up the firm.
Though establishing policies and procedures
represents the
tangible aspect of organization and management the mechanisms to
endure and embody barriers to the established
performance
serve as the real gist of a firm that will endure and thrive.
Even though you May find that certain events are
affecting your business be careful not to change the
organizational structure of
your firm without discussing it
with your management team. Employees normally can achieve goals
despite organizational structures
imposed by management.
Since restructuring involves spending a great deal of time
learning new guidelines implementing a new
organizational
structure is pricey.
The essence of A successful
organization can be simply summarized than implemented. The
Following checklist can help you determine
steps to ensure
your management Structure is sufficient. Check the entries that
apply to your company and also find Out what steps
your
business needs to take to improve its management Construction.
